Force India launched Force India F1 Team Academy

Force India launched its Force India F1 Team Academy in Bangalore here on 12 april 2011Tuesday.

The academy is an initiative to identify racing talent in India and to provide vocational and academic training for young Indians aspiring for a career in motorsports, said a release.

Vijay Mallya, Chairman and Team Principal, Force India Formula One Team, and Raymond Wong, Chief Executive Officer, Exxon Mobil, unveiled the academy. Nico Hulkenberg is a Formula 1 racer and has joined Force India as a test and reserve driver.

Mr. Mallya said the academy was a historic milestone in the sports arena in India. He also added that the academy was conceived to inspire young Indians who have talent, but so far have had no proper opportunity or serious platform to showcase their abilities.

"I hope that this academy will give young Indians who have the necessary passion and drive, a serious chance to show promise and an opportunity to excel. If the academy is able to place even one Indian on the F1 Grid, then all the effort would have been well worth it," Mr. Mallya noted.

When Mr. Hulkenberg was asked what it took to be a Formula One racer, he said, "Talent, perseverance and physical fitness are the only requirements. One must also be disciplined to climb to be a successful racer."
